Sara Codair_Earth Reclaimed

About Earth Reclaimed

When non-binary seventeen-year-old Seren becomes an ambassador, they’re forced to face their greatest fear: magic. By drawing power from rivers and lakes, Seren is left vulnerable to being controlled by the Mother Earth. Seren is desperate to avoid using magic, but a faction of fascist will do anything to start a war between mages and scientist, including killing Seren, the one mage who sees the value of science.

Outnumbered and outgunned, Seren must use magic to live long enough to reach the negotiations. As they struggle to survive assassination attempts, the sentient planet gets in Seren’s head and uses Seren to give humanity a warning: maintain peace or face extinction.

Shutting out Mother Earth could be the end of all humans. Letting Her in would mean becoming Mother Earth’s puppet, killing anyone opposed to Her. Seren must negotiate peace between mages and scientists, before Mother Earth drowns them all.

Power Surge

Erin has just realized that for the entirety of their life, their family has lied to them. Their Sight has been masked for years, so Erin thought the Pixies and Mermaids were hallucinations. Not only are the supernatural creatures they see daily real, but their grandmother is an Elf, meaning Erin isn’t fully human. On top of that, the dreams Erin thought were nightmares are actually prophecies.

While dealing with the anger they have over all of the lies, they are getting used to their new boyfriend, their boyfriend’s bullying ex, and the fact that they come from a family of Demon Hunters. As Erin struggles through everything weighing on them, they uncover a Demon plot to take over the world.

Erin just wants some time to work through it all on their own terms, but that’s going to have to wait until after they help save the world.

Do you have to be a monster to fight one?

Erin Evanstar is a demon hunter, a protector of humanity from nightmarish predators that feed on people’s fears and flesh. They are settling into their dual life of being a teen and hunting demons.

When a tentacled horror abducts Erin’s partner, José, Erin and their family go on the hunt to get him back. But Erin gets an ultimatum: help the Fallen Angels bring on the apocalypse or watch José die. Erin will do anything to save José, but fighting monsters comes with a grim price–becoming one themselves.

“But what really grabbed me (like Codair’s other books) is the emotional core of the story. Erin’s journey deepens and their emotional wellbeing and strength are challenged in personal ways after receiving major news that seems to shatter them.“

“Power Surge is a great read, especially as it has a non-binary protagonist who’s not afraid to punch evil in the face. At the same time, they are a complex character with emotional problems.”

2019 Publications Round-Up

I’m sorry for my silence this fall. It’s been busy with a full course load, conventions, edits, and writing. Actually, this whole year has been super busy, and my list of publications is so much smaller than last years. My first publication of 2019 was a poem called “Is Listening Visiting.” It was published in…

Book Review: The Time Trap

The middle grade reading spree continues with a digital ARC of The Time Trap that I got from NetGalley.  The Time Trap did have a good message for kids whose parents are going through a divorce, but it all seemed very cliche. Telling kids that acting out won’t make their parents get back together, and…

When you start querying one manuscript, start writing a new one.

I remember reading on websites, forums, and social media that once I started querying a manuscript, I should focus on writing a new one. The advice was that unless I was getting multiple rejections on fulls, or multiple rejections with similar feedback, I should just leave the manuscript alone. The first three times I queried,…

The first Wednesday of every month, the IWSG posts an optional question, encouraging members to read and comment on each other’s blogs. August’s Question is: Has your writing ever taken you by surprise? For example, a positive and belated response to a submission you’d forgotten about or an ending you never saw coming? For me,…

Book Review: The Bone Garden

The middle-grade reading spree continues with The Bone Garden. I got a free ARC of this creepy but cute little book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I didn’t think necromancy could be the cute, but alas, it was. In spite of its cuteness, I wasn’t as engaged with The Bone Garden as…

Book Review:All the Impossible Things

Alright, so I’m back to that middle grade reading spree! Granted, it hasn’t felt like much of a spree yet since this is only the third middle grade book I’ve read this summer… Spree or not, I received a free copy of All the Impossible Things from Netgalley  and read the whole thing in one…
